About this Project

The aim of Unpredictable Porridge is to provide an outlet for artists seeking to promote their music. You can see the fact that my dad, John Peel's, face heads the page as a statement of intent, an indication of our desire to continue some of his good work bringing unheard new music to a larger audience. He once called the majority of mainstream radio's output 'incredibly predictable porridge', so we, rather clumsily, have called ourselves Unpredictable Porridge, in the hope that we can fill part of the considerable gap left in his absence.

In addition to the fact that anybody sensibly interested in hearing something unfamiliar can listen to music offered up by an array of artists, this site can act as a direct link for unsigned bands to the heads of A&R at Universal and its subsidiaries. Uploaded tracks will be rummaged through by people from Mercury, Polydor, Island, NoCarbon, Fiction, Vertigo, Modular and others looking for new acts to sign up. A succession of editors, including key people in the music industry, heads of A&R, established artists, and, for what it's worth, myself, will also recommend their pick of recent submissions.

My dad always regretted that he couldn't give more time to each and every demo tape or CD he was sent. There are enough interested parties focussing their attention on Unpredictable Porridge that all music uploaded will be listened to and given the consideration it, hopefully, deserves.

Please be aware that profiles, once saved, cannot be changed, and your three chosen tracks cannot be edited. For this reason, tour dates, and anything else that needs to be updated regularly, should be posted on the forum. Here you can also find sections for trading instruments, hiring band members and finding studios.

For all of those who registered their interest in the site long ago, and there were quite a lot of you, sorry it's taken as long as it has to get back to you, we hope the wait will have been worth it.
